Notes and News

Branch Officers:
Secretary: Les Brackstone, 25 Moorhouse Road, Hull, HU5 5PW

Tel: 01482 506744

The Branch was inaugurated in 1981 by a presentation in Scunthorpe from Peter Semmens – at that time a senior member of the NRM team. This followed the opening of the Humber Bridge – a geographical landmark which enabled members on both sides of the river to meet regularly.

We currently have venues for indoor meetings in both Hull and Scunthorpe. However due to their availability to us, our meeting nights alternate between Tuesdays in Scunthorpe and Thursdays in Hull; the programme usually provides a speaker for alternate months at each venue.

Our venues are as follows:-

Hull: Upstairs in the Highway Public House, Willerby Road, Hull.
For those with steam memories, this is about the same longitude as the former Springhead (H & B) shed. Willerby Road runs westwards from the city centre, and the venue is on the north side of Willerby Road about 1 mile before reaching Willerby Square. There is ample parking space at the venue, and East Yorkshire ‘buses run regularly along Willerby Road, one service actually terminating at our venue. Their route numbers are 34, 44, 45, and 47; between them they leave the city centre at 10, 20, 25, and 55 minutes past the hour. The new Paragon Interchange has now opened buses to Willerby Road can now be caught at the bus interchange adjacent to the railway station.
