Memorial Plaque to West midlands Branch member Ray Reed installed at Coventry station. Bob Barby
On 31st October a memorial plaque to long standing local member and railwayman Raymond Reed was accepted by Virgin Trains station manager Helen Reid at a ceremony at Coventry Station attended by fellow members, friends, and relatives. Ray was a well respected member and prolific photographer who spent his entire working life based at Coventry. A full appreciation appeared in the 2012 RO at page 166. The plaque has been installed outside the Customer Services office on platform one.
On 21st May a party of members together with relatives of the late Ray Reed visited the Severn Valley Railway to pay the last respects to local member Ray who died on 24th September 2011 ( see obit. page 166 2011 RO). Leaving on the 12.25 from Kidderminster, headed by GWR 2857 with wreath attached, the party travelled to Highley where the casket of Ray’s ashes was placed in the firebox to be consumed in the climb away from the station with much whistling and smoke effects.
The party then visited the engine house to view the locomotives beloved by Ray. A fitting farewell to Ray arranged by the kind offices of the SVR staff.
