Preserved Coaching Stock of British Railways

These newsletter/amendment sheets record changes to former British Railways and Grouping Company Design Locomotive Hauled Coaching stock which has now been preserved. They are prepared by Peter Hall, to whom the society is grateful for allowing them to be included here.

The book "Preserved Coaching Stock of British Railways" by Peter Hall and Peter Fox was originally published in 1994 in two parts both are now out of print. Thanks to Peter Hall updated versions (to January 2015) are available for download as a .pdf file for both Part One - BR Design Stock and Part Two - Pre-Nationalisation Stock.

The July 2013 version is also available:
Part One - BR Design Stock - July 2013 and
Part Two - Pre-Nationalisation Stock - July 2013.

For disposal details of individual vehicles see Carriage Conundrums - Preserved Coaching Stock Disposals.

Within the broader definition of ‘Preserved Coaching Stock’ falls the numerous grounded bodies scattered across the British countryside. An example is the body of BR Fish Van 88022 which is located at a Clay Pigeon Shooting Club near Widdrington, Northumberland. The picture was taken on 11th September 2007 but open cast coal mining in the area resulted in it subsequently being moved a few hundred yards when the club had to relocate.   Peter Hall
