A member has in his possession a photograph of the royal train berthed in the down yard at Micheldever Station, with 34001 Exeter at its head. He was the Micheldever Station Master at the time and involved in the operational arrangements, but has no record of the date of this event and the reason for it being there. The Queen and Prince Phillip were on board and it was probably an overnight stop on their way from Waterloo to Winchester.
On arrival 34001 departed light to Eastleigh until the next morning and a Q1 0-6-0 was attached to the train to provide steam heating overnight. He believes the train departed for Winchester about 09 30 and thinks the event was during the spring or early summer of 1963.
Any further information would be very much appreciated. (SK:19434)
