At Calstock in South Devon there is a grounded vintage railway coach being used as a garden shed. It has been painted white with a corrugated iron roof and appears in good condition with five passenger doors on the visible side.
The coach is on the opposite side of Lower Kelly Road to the Calstock Boatyard and can be seen on Google Maps. Details are required as to which Railway Company it belonged, year built and history.
AnswerThis coach was built as an oil lit six wheeled five compartment third in 1886 and numbered 1195. It was later reduced to four wheeled. Steam heating was fitted from July 1900 and it was used as a workmen's coach from January 1931 until withdrawal in October 1938. It is of a rare design with tall quarter lights and is in occasional use a holiday chalet. (RD:21895)
