Does anyone recall the John Player of Nottingham excursion trains in the late 1940s?
I remember trains from Nottingham coming off the Great Northern Railway line at Stafford during August around 1947 1948 and 1949.
They were carrying employees of the cigarette company ‘John Player of Nottingham’ I think about 10 to 12 carriages long.
The carriage windows were heavily stickered with John Player cigarette adverts.
I don’t know the destination, though it may have been Shrewsbury Flower Show.
They were hauled (I think) by 38A Colwich B1 4-6-0s.
Unfortunately I didn’t record the loco numbers, or actual dates.
Can anyone provide these? Or indeed any information at all? (Terry Mountford)
