I am Graham Howarth - a friend of John Wade from those days. I am in contact with Pete Hall and John Wade trying to help with a history of the NCTS. John is correct NCTS was run for fun and not for profit. Dalescroft was so for profit that ICRS split off from it in the 1970s. It was Carnforth based....

My first RCTS tour was The Mersey Docker - I was crushed but only because a very large person was sat next to me.

My favourite was when we did Buxton and did the single line access road - also had D200 on and a Thornaby Class 37. I forgot the date

Dalescroft Railfans morphed into RESL - Railway Enthusiast Society Limited. It was run by Dale but he often had Neil Webster RIP doing a lot of the leg work. RESL came to grief when they advertised sheds full of motive power on railtours but BR/successors started charging a fortune for specific loco...

Pete is correct. NCTS day trips ran Sunday. Overnighters started Saturday afternoon from Manchester Vic. GRAND trips ran Good Friday from about noon to late Easter Monday evening
