Re: RO 2014 Index

Gents, The News letter to branch secretaries mainly contains mundane information about meetings, things such as looking after society publications, dates for returns etc. Most of this is of no interest or use to normal members of the society. Far from being some secret society I have found members of...

Re: CHRISTMAS RAIL SERVICES

Mike & Co, A lot of the problem with rail services over the Christmas period is not the fact of there being no services on certain days and withdrawl of services due to engineering work. The main problem is when rail services are withdrawn for late running works and when little or no notice and help...

Re: Dead or Dying Already?

Hi Gents, Another Idea for the capacity problem on the GWML is before wires are put up all the way west is to alter the height of the infrastructure and modify the existing OHLE so that double deck trains can be introduced on the commuter corridor. Just think how cost effective it would be to have d...

Re: Dead or Dying Already?

Hi Gents, We have moved away from 6's original post so it may need splitting into two topics. The main problem For The GWML and Thames Valley is there is no joined up thinking and long term plan which also applies to most of the railway infrastructure in England. One only has to look at the complete...

Re: Dead or Dying Already?

Hi 6's. Do not get dispondent as forums take a little while to 'get up steam' so to speak. But members can mention it at branch meetings or if there is a volunteer then a brief few lines on the months topic could be sent to the RO editor for inclusion in the RO which may bring in a few more members....

Re: Why are you a member (or not) of the RCTS?

Hi Gents, Meetings are difficult especially for those who need to use public transport. The NE branch for years met on a saturday evening historically after shed visits. A change was agreed to move to thursday evenings at Darlington like the Newcastle meetings. It was proposed by the then Chairman t...

Re: More worms come out of the D2185 can!

Hi Peter, To add further an article today states that the local council (Cardiff) are to close Rover Way from 12:00 till 12:00 tomorrow because of a funeral from the gypsy camp site off Rover Way on part of the site. Also quoted is that Rover Way has no pavements and has blind bends -slightly differ...

Re: More worms come out of the D2185 can!

Hi Peter, The areas that are mentioned as to Birds Scrapyard in the use of the 03's is to the east of the main Cardiff Docks complex. It is between Splott and what was Pengam Farm. On the North East of Pengam Farm site was built the Tremorfa Works. Here the coast is on a North East-South West alignm...

Re: Is disposal information of rolling stock relevant?

Hi Gents, Indeed there have been some very valid points raised by Bevan & 6s which I agree with. I can understand the wish of people to complete the story of a loco ie frames set out WE xx xxxx and to traffic WE xx xxxx and the same with date entering a scrap yard with date finally cut up. But to me...

Re: South Wales Electrification

Hi Richard & Noel, I just hope that lessons have been learned and that it is built to a better standard than the 'not fit for purpose' ECML electrification. Noel re the 142s, almost anything is better - it does not matter the age of the stock but the ride, comfort, capacity and reliability are the m...
