ECML Dragged Trains

Post by Peter Hall » Sun Dec 07, 2014 12:38 pm

For some time, tucked away on the Sheffield Branch web pages has been the ECML Dragged Trains feature. Thanks to web guru David Jackman this has now been promoted to Features http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... eld/draggs although some tweaking is still needed.

This started out as advance information of which trains were planned to be dragged during scheduled ECML engineering works. It has gradually been expanded to include all scheduled ECML dragging as a result of engineering work since 1997. Details are given of the trains dragged and the dragg locomotive. Several photographs have also submitted photographs and some amazing line side shots are now included.

Not every dragg locomotive is known and details that would help fill the gaps are very much welcomed. Also, photographs, particularly of draggings for which none are yet included would be very much welcomed.

It would be very nice to have a picture of 67011 dragging on 15/10/00 - the first use of a 67 on the drags. Also, to have some Durham Coast pictures.

The next dragging is scheduled to take place over March weekends and will see Joint Line diversions. Further details will be given here and on the web page as they become available.

Details of the trains to be dragged on the first weekend next February/March can now be found at http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... /ECMLDrags winter15

It is not clear as yet whether the recently re-instated down Sleaford avoiding line will be used or down trains will again be routed via Sleaford station. Although up trains are normally routed out of Doncaster (1 or 3) via the Up Slow it is always possible they could be routed via the Up Flyover (from 4 or 8). Down trains are routed via Down Flyover approaching Doncaster.

The five weekends of ECML drags and diversions via the GN&GE Joint Line start today. 67003 has already been reported in use. Observations, photographs and other information regarding these and earlier drags always welcomed.

This is the last weekend of the five when ECML trains have been dragged via the GN&GE. So far no one has forwarded any pictures though for use on the website or for me to forward to the RO picture editor. Presumably none of those standing in the fields of Lincolnshire photographing these trains are RCTS members! Our regular Doncaster correspondent is not on duty this weekend so observations from today and tomorrow will be very much welcomed.

Dragging returns on the 18th April when for three weekends a number of trains are dragged between Leeds and York. Details are now available at http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... 20spring15

Unfortunately the Society AGM this Saturday clashes with ECML drags between Doncaster and York. Should any members interested in the topic be in Warwickshire rather than Yorkshire on Saturday I will be happy to receive comments etc on this feature.

If there is one thing I fully agree with the RO Editor about it is the lack of photographic submissions from members. We have yet to receive any pictures of the recent drags between Doncaster and Peterborough even though passengers on the trains reported seeing more photographs than tractors in the Fens.

The Spring 2015 ECML Drags are now over with all observations received now added to the website. Also now added are further details surrounding the problems of 28th March during the Winter 2015 ECML drags.

I am not aware that any further ECML dragging is currently planned.

It is though disappointing to report that not a single photograph of the Winter or Spring 2015 ECML drags has been submitted for use on the website. Thus, for now the link picture for these drags remains as being one taken during earier dragging.

Also still lacking are details of the drag locomotives used during the Autumn 2014 ECML Drags through the Tyne Valley.

During November and early December 2015 there will again be dragging through the Tyne Valley. Details for trains on the first day (Saturday 14th November) have been added to the ECML drags feature at https://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffi ... 20autumn15 and details of others will be added once details are confirmed.

Could I once again appeal for anyone with observations of previous drags not included so far to submit these. Also we are struggling for photographs with none at al being submitted for recent sessions as well as many in the '47' era.
