I'm sure other members, like me, will be saddened to learn of the death of Michael Mensing at the age of 80, as reported in the current issue of Heritage Railway magazine. I will forever be grateful to those photographers who recorded the 1950s/1960s railway scene in the West Midlands, allowing people like me to remember trains and places with which I was familiar, but which I did not photograph myself during that era. Amongst those photographers Michael stood out, not only because of his prolific output but also because of the quality of his images. I never knowingly met him but am glad to be able to enjoy his photographs in the considerable number of books and other publications to which he contributed.
Perhaps someone who knew him may care to add to this.
