RCTS on facebook

Post by MartinF » Sun Mar 15, 2015 12:03 am

The March 2015 RO explained at length about facebook and that the RCTS already has a page with information and photographs. Well all I can find is some very generic and apparently unsupported information, without photographs or anything providing anything useful. It is 'liked' by just 28 people.

Most members will likely already know that facebook has long been adopted by all age groups because they have discovered how useful it can be. Yet I still can't find the informative RCTS page to which one is encouraged to contribute. Anyone know where it is hidden?

A quick 'Google' search reveals this https://www.facebook.com/RCTSUK/info?tab=page_info which has a photos link, inside which is too much stuff for me to list here. I can't see anything about 'likes' so presume it must be a different page to the one you found.

Phil that link seems a bit empty? If one types in Railway Correspondence and Travel Society in full one gets the 28 likes. Are there 2 sites?

Further probing came up with
https://www.facebook.com/RCTSUK/likes
I think it would be useful to have the link on the RCTS website, or am I missing something?

Does the top level page https://www.facebook.com/RCTSUK help?

(I don't 'do' Facebook so I don't know what we're looking for!)

Yes that link is ok. I don't use facebook much but I am used to having Photos as a heading to go to when I do use it. I'll fiddle a bit more.

Weird. Using the same link as before, the facebook page now looks like the format I am used to. Much better for browsing.

Thank you all, with your suggestion I have searched RCTSUK and found the page.

I still note that search within facebook for RCTS finds only the semi-dormant 'Non-profit Organisation' page with the 28 likes. A search for RCTSUK finds the RCTS (no mention of UK) 'Community' page. We do need people, both members and prospective members to be able to find the 'Community' page without knowing the 'UK' coding. Not everyone can ask for your help in finding it!

I'll now 'like' the newly found page.

RCTS Facebook.

RCTS Facebook has now had 336 Posts and is currently on 269 Page "likes".

The page can be seen at:-
http://www.facebook.com/RCTSUK
This page is public, and can be seen without needing a Facebook account.

If searching from within Facebook, there are quite a number of "RCTS" results returned - the one to choose, is the one containing the letters "RCTS" against a maroon background.

Sometimes, public networks (libraries in particular) don't allow access to Facebook, and if this happens, you may be able to use:-
http://tinyurl.com/p3d4pgo

Posts to the page are welcome - and these may be just text, or may include picture attachments.

Posts will appear initially on the small "Posts to Page" section, half way down the page, on the left, and then can be moved to the main timeline by one of the moderators.

Please remember to give some information about any pictures uploaded - and dates are preferred, rather than "taken yesterday".

Even if you not on Facebook, it is still possible to post messages and to upload photographs, via the email link:-
< rctssw-facebook@yahoo.co.uk >
This is a MANUAL process - so your message may not appear on Facebook for a few days - obviously posting direct to Facebook is preferred, if possible.

Contact can be made with the moderators either via the "message" button on Facebook, or via the email link.

Branch officials / members are invited to post promotional messages about future events, and also meeting reports / photographs from past events.
