ECML - The nineties are back!

Postby Peter Hall » Fri Oct 14, 2016 11:29 am

After an absence of over thirteen years a timetabled daytime passenger train was hauled by a Class 90 yesterday on the East Coast Mainline. Indications are that this is not going to be a one off.

It is hoped to keep tabs on exactly which trains use Class 90s and of course which locomotives are used. For now details are being held as a feature on the Sheffield Branch webpage https://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffi ... eld/ECML90

Could I encourage anyone who observes a Class 90 in passenger use on the ECML to report this. Also if anyone is lucky enough to posses equipment related to the new fangled development of photography and is able to catch an image of such an event on a glass plate please let us have a copy.

Will add a summary of the 1991-2003 period in the next few days.

ECML nineties 1991 - 2003

Postby Peter Hall » Mon Oct 17, 2016 8:51 am

The summary of Class 90 usage on ECML timetabled trains from 1991 - 2003 has now been added to the Sheffield Branch webpage http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... L90history

We would like to include a few pictures from that era, if you do have any that could be used please get in touch.

A few bits of gen from my haulage records 1998-2003 to add to the history.

90028 worked 1735 LDS-KGX on 17/04/99.

In 2001 I have 3 recorded class 90 ECML haulages all of some interest.

05/09 and 29/11 were both 1505 LDS-KGX and recorded as 90233 and 90222 respectively. I don't remember the details of the class 90/2 renumbering but possibly worth adding something on that.

Then I have 28/12/01 90042 0810 KGX-LDS something outside the ranges in the summary.

All of my ECML class 90 haulages are on LDS/KGX workings except 26/05/03 when 90030 was on KGX/PBO shuttles presumably there was engineering work north of PBO.

Thanks MisterC for your comments. Feature updated accordingly.

After all the excitement on the 13th and 14th no subsequent workings have been reported. Hopefully we will not have to wait another thirteen years!

Thursday 26th outing to Tyneside

Postby Peter Hall » Sat Oct 29, 2016 11:07 am

Reports have been received of 90029 having a spin to Newcastle-upon-Tyne on Thursday, see http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... eld/ECML90 for details Interesting routing via both Tyne bridges as well. Any members from Newcastle-upon-Tyne sneak out at lunch time and get a picture we could use on the website?

Have just pulled out of Kings Cross on the 10:08 service to Peterborough and on leaving 90-029 was pulling in ECS.So i assume it will be working a service from KX with in the next hour or so and it was on a full VTEC Mk4 set.
If anyone is interested in going to try and see it please be advised that services are diverted via the Hertford Loop today.

EssexSteve was indeed correct and 90029 was used on Sunday and as I understand it on the subsequent three days. Details of the trains believed to have been involved have been added to the website but confirmation would be appreciated.

ECML - The nineties are back! Order reversal.

Postby Peter Hall » Sat Nov 12, 2016 12:22 pm

Just altered the current page on the website http://www.rcts.org.uk/branches/sheffie ... eld/ECML90 so the workings are in reverse chronological order. Thus, the most recent known or projected workings are at the top of the list. Hope this meets with approval.

Thanks to Essexsteve for your Sunday sighting, now added.

Regrettably I have to report that no RCTS member or none member has submitted a photograph for use on the website!

Not actually seen any of the recent workings myself so very reliant on reported sightings and what I can scrounge from elsewhere on the net, thus the tbc "to be confirmed" comments. Confirmations very much welcomed so these can be removed.
