After some very hard work over the last few days by MNLPS working members, I am delighted to say that Clan Line has passed FTR for tomorrow's UKRT trip to Sherborne.
It will be a significant trip for the loco as 23rd December will be her 70th anniversary from when she first entered traffic, in honour of this we shall be showing number 70 duty on the headcode discs.

An excellent trip to Sherborne despite some late running due to influences outside the control of the loco operator, for example we were stopped and cautioned at as a result of a dog on the line at Isleworth! Some sustained high speed running on both the outwards and return journeys, right time arrival back at Victoria.
This was the last run for Clan Line this year, we shall now be carry out our winter maintenance programme and will be returning to the main line by early March.

Since the end of December Clan Line has been undergoing annual maintenance. Amongst work that has been undertaken, the inside of the tender tank has been painted and lined with epoxy resin, the driver's side motion has received attention consisting of replacing bushes and re white metalling, the smokebox and cylinders have been repainted and some firebars in the grate replaced.
Last night the loco with the support coach successfully completed a test trip to run in the re-metaled motion parts, this consisted of a run from Stewarts Lane to Willesden followed by three round trips via Acton Wells Jn, Kew East, Clapham Jn and the West London Line then return to the Lane arriving just after 0700, a long night for the support crew!
Our next run on the mainline will be on Friday 8th March when the loco will be hauling the normal bread and butter run on the Belmond Surrey Hills, British Pullman.
NOTE:I shall be giving a presentation on Clan Line to the RCTS, Surrey Branch on Tuesday 26th March at the United Reformed Church Woking commencing at 1915.

Yesterday's Surrey Hills was run in somewhat trying conditions, the outward part of the run to the water stop at Shalford was completed without incident, then the rains came! The result was very greasy rail conditions which resulted on some loss of time on the climb up to the summit at Gomshall. The sanders were on most of the way from Shalford to the 1/96 summit which was breasted at 22 MPH with full load of 11 pullmans, plus generator car and our support coach equalling 510 tons, this entailed some very skilful handling by the DBC crew of Jim Clark from Hither Green at the regulator and Wayne Thomspson of Eastleigh on the shovel. With some spirited running through the suburbs the arrival back at Victoria was 1 minute early.
