Judging from the amount of queries I have had about Ian Allan railtours and shed visits, many of you will have served your railway enthusiast apprenticeship, as I did, with that organisation before graduating to the RCTS.
In Exeter we had Peter Tonks(?) as our leader and he arranged many enjoyable visits, usually with travel by rail, even hiring a GWR railcar for one to South Wales.
Does anyone know how this was organised? I cannot remember anything to do with head office being mentioned. Were other branches notified of the visits?
Also I do not recall visit reports in Ian Allan publications, or have I missed something?
