Hi. I'm off to Glasgow in a couple of weeks for the weekend. Any places worth visiting in the vicinity for freight traffic?

Would have thought Motherwell would provide a variety?

Paisley used to be OK but with the demise of coal traffic there is little here now. For north bound out of Mossend Yard then somewhere like Cumbernauld and for south bound Holytown. Both these places though are quite desolate and can be a little unsettling. A check of RTT is required to see the best times.

On a Saturday, Holytown is likely to yield 6 freights in the afternoon and evening/night only, these would be from Colas, DBC, DRS, FL, GBRf in the form of Cl. 66/70/88/90.

On a Sunday this is reduced to just one freight and the Caledonian Sleeper ECS.

Coatbridge might provide a couple more freights on a Saturday, but some are going to be at anti-social hours, whilst Sunday will be just a couple of freights in the afternoon and evening/night.

Try subscribing to Freightmaster, it will give you everything you need including maps and likely stock and avoids the need of hanging around some locations on the 'off chance' of something interesting passing.
