Yesterday's 'Surrey Hills' was a bit of a 'curates egg'. Clan performed in her usual exemplary style, however the trip was thawted for a number of reasons. Before Clapham Jn the train was held for a London Overground service this meant that the train was 14' late at Clapham Jn with consequential loss of turn to other services, time was picked up after the Addlestone Jn pathing stop only to be held outside Woking by a late running SWR service. The arrival at the Shalford water stop was 4' late. After the water stop the train was cautioned at Ranmore Crossing and Brockham AHB for trespassers, the final indignity was a signal failure at Pouparts Jn resulting in a 9' late arrival.

A good trip with no issues to report, arrival at Bristol TM a couple of minutes early return arrived at Victoria 15 minutes early! I understand from support crew who were on the train that some spirited running took place.

I can report that Clan Line has passed her fitness to run for tomorrow's Surrey Hills 'Belmond British Pullman'. Upon the return to Stewarts Lane the loco will be doing a quick turnaround prior to a movement to Ramsgate departing at 2010 hauling our support coach and a DB Class 67 for the South Eastern Engineering Depot open day on Saturday. Amongst other exhibits at Ramsgate will be Class 73 73207 and Class 33 33207 +2EPB and MLV from Southall, attaching a DB Class 66 at Hoo Jn. Class 88 No. 88007 will be coming from Willesden Brent Sdgs and GBRF EDLs 73201 and 73202 will be coming from Tonbridge, the Hastings diesel unit will also be there. SE will have some of their own rolling stock on display.
My understanding is that the event is only open to SE staff and their families.

An incident free 'Surrey Hills' with a right time arrival back at Victoria. On return to Stewarts Lane we handed over to another support crew, serviced the loco, put on the 'Golden Arrow' regalia and headed off for the open day at Ramsgate, hauling our support coach and Belmond livered Class 67 No.67021. The departure time from Victoria was 23 10, the ensemble ran via Chatham and by the time everything was put away at Ramsgate it was gone midnight.
Ramsgate open day was highly successful with lots of heritage traction on display in addition to modern vehicles, there long queues to visit Clan Line's footplate and for £1 the whistle could be blown with all proceeds going to 'The Railway Children' and a local hospice. Clan Line left Ramsgate for Stewarts Lane around 20 00 via Canterbury, Ashford and Tonbridge arriving back on shed sometime after 23 00, altogether a highly satisfactory couple of days with some very tired support crew members.

I am pleased to report that Clan Line has passed her fitness to run for tomorrow's Belmond Pullman to Stratford on Avon, with sister engine 35018 British India Line on today's run to Weymouth who would have believed that two Bulleid Merchant Navy Pacifics in 2 days would be out on the mainline 52 years to the day since the end of Southern steam?

From reports I have received Clan Line at a cracking trip to Stratford on Avon yesterday culminating on the return from a signal check at Didcot East Jn passed at 9 MPH to passing Ealing Broadway the 47 1/4 miles were run in 42 1/2 minutes, mile after mile the speed was 75 MPH or there abouts, passengers waiting on the platform at Reading must have had a real surprise as the Pullman ran through at 76 MPH whistle sounding! Wayne Thompson from Eastleigh was on the regulator with Dave Proctor on the shovel.
