Thomas Brassey
The year 2020 marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Thomas Brassey, one of the foremost railway contractors of the early 19th Century. The inaugural public meeting of the Thomas Brassey Society will be held in Chester on 18th November 2019. During the last 12 months the society, in conjunction with the Chester Civic Trust, has raised funding for two interpretation panels in Chester Station. It is intended to erect a permanent memorial, either a statue or other piece of public art, also at Chester Station, to commemorate Brassey’s achievements as ‘the world’s foremost builder of railways in the 19th century.
