Presenter: Geoff Brockett
To kick off our first live meeting since March 2020 Geoff Brockett visited us with his presentation “Roaming around London with my Camera”. Just as a warning to us all Geoff started the show with a picture of the pandemic warning signs at South Woodford station, the evening was divided into different aspects of London’s railways, starting with a look at the London underground system, we then moved on to a section featuring the historic LU locomotive Sarah Siddons used now for special workings and events, such as “Steam on the Met” running days. The DLR proved a very interesting area for photography as we saw shots of the units from across several canal & river basins around the East End. Geoff also had pictures of the rebuilding of Waterloo International station back into normal use after the Eurostars. We then moved to St.Pancras with the Eurostars, also covering the last HST’s into the capital both here and at Paddington. Right up to date in the next section when we saw modern class 700’s, 710, 717, 720, 755’s. and 800’s. These was followed by a few shots of progressing HST 2 work-sites around the Old Oak Common area. Geoff followed this modern section with some photographs of what has become a fairly common site around here with old Dmu / Emu units being towed away for storage, upgrading or scrap usually using Class 37 or 57 locos. To round off the evening the final sections were covering Freight in the area, Track maintenance machines and visiting Steam loco’s including Tornado, Clan Line, Bahamas and Mayflower. A worth-while evening getting everyone out of their armchairs and joining in again.
