18 May 2022 Roaming Around London With A Camera

Presenter: Geoff Brockett

A well constructed fast moving presentation began with a little nostalgia including engineering trains, a glimpse of Kings Cross Goods Yard, a Class 90 on a Kings Cross -Retford working, Class 20 + 4TC set and some station architecture notably the London Necropolis railway at Waterloo.

Modern Traction followed encompassing the many lines that radiate from Central London. LNWR Class 350 and 319, Southern 455 and 387, SWR 455, 458, 442, 450 & 450, Caledonian Sleeper, EMRs HSTs & 180, West Coast 390 and 221, Chiltern 165 & 166 and many more, comprehensively reflecting the variety in the London railway scene.

A separate section covered ‘drags’ inevitably highlighting the extraordinary volume of 442 movements in recent years, to destinations off the third rail before ultimately complete withdrawal.

The obscure was never far from Geoff’s camera, no more so than represented by a route learning inspection saloon converted from a Hastings DEMU.

For the steam enthusiast the show ended with some fine views including ‘Tornado’, ‘Mayflower’, ‘Bahamas’ & ‘British India Line’

A slide rather than digital presentation brought challenges, but the overall content was excellent, well appreciated by the audience, kept entertained by a vast array of images and well informed commentary. Many thanks to Geoff for this absorbing evenings’ entertainment and to John Barrowdale who seamlessly operated the manual slide projector.
