SUMMARY:Oliver Bulleid and 35028 Clan Line
DESCRIPTION:Oliver Bulleid was one of Britain’s last great steam locomotive engineers\, and arguably one of the most controversial. Perhaps his best locos were the Merchant Navy class Pacifics – capable of great feats\, but also suffering problems which led to them being rebuilt – did this perfect or spoil them? 35028 Clan Line of the class is one of best steam mainline performers currently in action\, kept in immaculate condition by the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society (MNLPS). \nSimon Martin\, who has previously given us presentations on Oliver Bulleid’s former colleagues Edward Thompson and Sir Nigel Gresley\, and is Treasurer of the MNLPS will come to tell us of the man and his locomotive: whether he resolves the debate we will have to see. \n

SUMMARY:Croydon & SL Branch AGM and Members’ Images
DESCRIPTION:Our Annual General Meeting\, to be followed by Members’ Images. Your chance to speak up and show off! \nSince our last AGM a year ago\, it is fair to say the Branch has had another somewhat problematic year\, struggling to keep going. So I would urge you all to attend\, to discuss the future of the branch. While our three active committee members – Rob Burridge\, Robert Bourton and Jeremy Harrison – are all willing to continue as Branch officers\, subject to your approval\, we really need some new blood on the committee to help take the branch forward. As Rob has put it:\nPLEASE COME AND SUPPORT THE BRANCH. BRING YOUR IDEAS\, AND HELP IT GO FORWARD. \nFollowing the business part of the meeting\, there will be a presentation of members’ images – an opportunity for you to contribute\, and show off what you have done. Both conventional 35mm slide and digital projectors will be available.

SUMMARY:Railways 1952-53\, from the Sutton Coldfield Railway Society's Moseley collection
DESCRIPTION:Railways 1952-53 is a presentation of photographs from the Sutton Coldfield Railway Society’s Moseley Archive of over 2000 photographs taken by Percy Moseley between 1911 and the 1970s. This presentation will cover the years 1952 and 1953 – a period when British Railways was getting into its stride as an organisation\, but in many ways it was still the traditional railway\, looking and working much as it had done over the previous half century – and follows on from the previous presentations of photographs covering earlier years. It will be given by Robin Mathams\, the Moseley Collection Archivist.

Following closure\, there were various proposals over its future\, before it became a heritage railway – one of the nearest ones to us – as which it is now well established.
