DESCRIPTION:A presentation of Black and White images\, drawn from the Ken Nunn collection and scanned from glass plates\, illustrating railways in Britain before the Great War. Tonight’s is the first of three parts\, starting with a few images from before the Great Boer War (as it was known at the time)\, and then featuring Eastern England\, Scotland and Ireland. SUMMARY:Testing and Commissioning the IC225s
DESCRIPTION:Dave Coxon started work for British Railways at the Loco Works in Derby in 1964. During his long career Dave has worked for the LM CM&EE\, the DM&EE and R&DD\, for Serco and latterly for Bombardier in Derby. Dave was part of the Commissioning Section at the RTC Derby who were involved with testing and commissioning the IC225s in 1988-89. \nDave’s talk will cover the delivery of the first 10 locomotives and their testing and mileage gathering. It also covers the trials and tribulations of the late delivery of the Mk4 coaches and DVTs and the need to enter service on the promised date with Mk3 rolling stock and surrogate DVTs. His talk also describes the extensive testing of the Mk4 coach bogies and the transit of a locomotive to Hamburg for an exhibition in June 1988. \n\nFor this virtual event\, you will require a ticket. DESCRIPTION:A further presentation of photographs from the Sutton Coldfield Railway Society’s Moseley Archive of over 2000 photographs taken by the late Percy Moseley between 1911 and the 1970s. Following previous presentations of images from the 1940s and early 1950s\, for this evening’s presentation we return to the pre-war era of the early 1930s\, when many of the steam locos that were part of the spotting experience for many of us were only just appearing (or still in the future). It wasn’t until 1971\, when he took the train to Wrexham and was confronted with things he thought no longer existed\, that his railway interest revived. From then on he was hooked on ‘change’. This later focussed more and more on infrastructure. DESCRIPTION:We start at Swindon – head west on the “new” route to South Wales as far as the Bristol/Gloucester route where we turn north – taking in the Midland Route with appropriate motive power. A visit to the iconic Severn Bridge along the way before arrival at Gloucester. We return south via Stroud Chalford and Sapperton to Swindon. Reversing again we head south west to Westbury and then up the Berks and Hants to Reading followed by a dash back to Swindon via Didcot.
