SUMMARY:Visit to Scarborough North Bay Railway
DESCRIPTION:This summer RCTS Sheffield Branch’s summer day out will take us to the fantastic 20-inch gauge Scarborough North Bay Railway\, which has been operating for over 90 years. A group booking has been made and we shall have an introductory briefing\, tour of the engine sheds and then a return trip on the line. Our booking includes the “Flying Sconesman” refreshments\, all at an inclusive cost per person of just £7.50. \n  \nWhat we do ask is that everyone intending to come lets us know in advance and thereby commits to paying the railway the agreed amount of £7.50 per head. Participants will need to make payment individually on the day. Please note only payments by card can be made at the railway. \n  \nAll – member and non-members – are very welcome and we encourage you to bring your partners and to invite your railway enthusiast friends to join us for what should be a great afternoon. \n  \nPlease arrive at the Scarborough North Bay Railway for 12.30. We expect the afternoon to conclude around 15.00-15.30. \n  \nTo assist in planning your own travel to Scarborough the following may be helpful: \nBy train: There are direct Northern trains to Scarborough (via Hull and the Wolds Coast Line) from Sheffield leaving at xx.57. Various cheap advance fares are available and Northern may also be running its £12 one day rover Newspaper offer at this time. We suggest attendees\, if coming from Sheffield\, use the 08.57 train (Doncaster 09.23) which arrives Scarborough at 11.41. Other\, slightly faster\, options may be available by going via and changing at York. There are return direct trains on the hour every hour\, also taking around 2h50. It is around a 25 minute walk to the North Bay railway from Scarborough station (note the return is mostly uphill). There are various options for undertaking the journey by bus including using Arriva’s X94 service from outside the station. \n  \nBy car:  The 92 mile journey from Sheffield via the M18 and A614 can be expected to take around 2h15-2h30 depending on traffic conditions. Various other route options are available. Once in Scarborough follow the brown signs for North Bay Attractions. Peasholm Station is located on Burniston Road and there is a large pay & display car park opposite the station. \nAlthough the date is still some time away we need to gauge the level of support for the occasion. Accordingly\, please contact Jim Bryant\, our Branch Secretary to let us know if you intend coming\, how many will be in your party and whether you have any special needs (disabled access\, dietary requirements\, etc.)\, if possible by 13 June. \nJim can be contacted at: sheffieldsec@rcts.org.uk
