Branch AGM and Members’ Evening

Following on from our Branch AGM, for which we had a rather disappointing turn out, John Dossett gave us a presentation of his very recent visit to the Mid Suffolk Light Railway. This railway co-operates with John on articles for our monthly branch newsletters and the main purpose of John’s visit was to see the presentation of the Morgan Award for the Best Preservation Effort, from the Heritage Railway Association, for their work on the 1934 built 0-4-0 Fowler shunter called “Shreddie”. This was following many years of work at the Shredded Wheat factory in Welwyn Garden City. John also presented some very interesting details on the ex-Great Eastern coach MSLR No.12 which was restored by the group in 1982 after spending 80 years in some farmers field. Also featured in the presentation was a Cockerill 0-4-0 Belgian-built vertical-boilered loco. All this occurred in & around Brockford station. Following on from this, after tea, our Chairman Steve Lacey shared his memories and pictures of the Members Weekend held in Taunton last October and his time there spent on the West Somerset Railway where the Diesel Electric Preservation Group have their headquarters. The RCTS group also visited the Lynton & Barnstable narrow gauge railway which operates both diesel and steam traction. It would not be Steve without a few pictures from the Nene Valley Railway, these included some of the “Bahamas Weekend” and a few others including some showing himself in one of his favourite roles - as Father Christmas.
