LMSR/BR Steam Heating Generator Vans

Twenty of these conversions were made in the early 1960's. Their initial role was to provide train heating for steam heat only stock when being hauled by an ac electric locomotive. As more modern stock became available there usage on passenger trains diminished. Most though found further use as stationery pre-heaters at stations and in carriage sidings. Thirteen were listed in the 1972 edition of 'Coaching Stock of British Railways' with the other seven by then having been transferred to Departmental Stock. All twenty are included.
