A Branch Line to Disney
Tue 28th June @ 14:00 - 16:30
A Hitchin & Welwyn Garden City Branch presentation by Steve Lacey
The story of the Gravesend West Street branch which, before the tunnelling under the Thames and East London was complete, formed the way into London via a cord at Southfleet, along the line of the old branch, to join the classic line into Waterloo at Fawkham Junction. The talk will cover the history of the line from its building in the 1880’s, through passenger closure in 1953 and freight closure in 1968, to rebuilding and opening to Eurostar in 2003.
David Kelso will give the planned talk at a later date, but at least you will get a few miles of the original subject!
This is a replacement for the planned presentation “Construction of HS1 – The Channel Tunnel Rail Link” by David Kelso, which will now be rescheduled for a future occasion.
Doors open 1:30pm
