Railways of the Former USSR

As the USSR came to an end in 1991, tours for foreign railway enthusiasts became possible, and your presenter participated in a number of these in the 1990s, to Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, photographing what still very much – at least as it appeared to a westerner – the single railway system of the (former) USSR, a country that had seemed so permanent. While the tours featured retained steam locomotives, he also took the opportunity of recording the contemporary diesel and electric power: both steam and modern traction feature in his presentation.
