Goods depots around Liverpool

Part I - The Docks

On 3rd November the branch welcomed back Paul Wright for one of his presentations drawn from his wealth of local knowledge of the history of railways on Merseyside. An attendance of 26 saw an informative and professional presentation by Paul who is renowned for his attention to detail on the subject in question.

He started at Brunswick in the south end of the city and worked his way north via almost 20 locations to Seaforth. Paul identified a number of locations which many of those present, even long residing “scousers”, were unaware existed. He pointed out not only various sidings/yards but also their associated buildings, many of which were destroyed during the blitz in the 1940s.

Paul always amazes us with his detailed knowledge – the product of years of research – and we are all eagerly awaiting his return to present part 2.
