Penistones's passenger train highlights - since 1964

Although Passenger services between Penistone and Hadfield ceased in January 1970, the route was still used for Footexes heading to Wadsley Bridge. These trains were diesel hauled with several running in connection with some matches, particularly cup ties. Those that passed through Penistone in 1970 are shown below. The 14th March 1970 is of particular significance as not only were these the first Footexes to run since the passenger service was withdrawn, but also saw the once and only appearance of a Class 50 at Penistone.
