The Wrexham & Shropshire Railway

The Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales branch were entertained by Geoff Plumb on the subject of the Wrexham and Shropshire Railway. Over 70 joined the meeting over zoom.

Geoff gave a short history of the railway explaining how it came into existence in April 2008.  It was fascinating to hear how he was able to get to know the people around the railway, enabling him to have access to locations that the ordinary man would not be able to get.  His talk covered details of the liveries of the railway and the various engines used, and his photographs took us all the way from Wrexham right down to Marylebone, including the testing runs prior to the official opening of the railway.

The presentation finished with some emotional scenes after the last train ran in January 2011.  Although the railway was in existence only for a short time it is good to know that a detailed record of it has been kept.
