SUMMARY:CHM Branch - McRailrover
DESCRIPTION:In the 1970s and 1980s\, Scotland provided some amazing opportunities to travel around the country\, through fantastic scenery\, across the roof of the United Kingdom still\, then\, using locomotive hauled trains away from the big city centre and suburban services. Stuart Warr travels up the River Severn to present an evening of rail-roving – Scottish style. \n

SUMMARY:CHM Branch - An 11th Colour-Rail journey - 1964 - an interesting year
DESCRIPTION:For the first meeting of our 2024/25 season we welcome Paul Chancellor back to present the 11th iteration of his ‘A Colour-Rail Journey. This will focus on 1964 – an interesting year. The gloom hanging over the country’s railway system following publication of the report The Reshaping of Britain’s Railways had yet to completely descend\, so there was much for enthusiasts to still enjoy and photograph. We see the fruits of their labours collected and remastered by the Colour-Rail team.

SUMMARY:Branch ABM and Cheltenham St. James to Broadway
DESCRIPTION:We will conduct our Branch Annual Business Meeting\, receive reports from the Committee and elect officers to serve for the 2024/5 period. We will endeavour to keep this bit of the meeting short! – because: – \nFollowing this John Dagley-Morris will present Cheltenham St. James to Broadway. This will be a journey along the line which is largely preserved by the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway. One of many significant structures along the line to Broadway\, 13 arch Stanway Viaduct\, requires some major improvements to ensure its continued well being. The viaduct was constructed in 1905 and is showing its nearly 120 years of age. In 2023 the GWSR Trust launched a £1.5m appeal to raise funds to help pay for the work needed. John has suggested his presentation should be an opportunity to donate funds towards the appeal.

SUMMARY:A Tribute to John Benson
DESCRIPTION:Branch members with longer memories will fondly remember Johns Benson and Champion trading stories and photographs\, comparing notes of their service in the military\, always with camera in hand to record railway scenes wherever they were. John Benson was able\, during service with the RAF\, and later in life to travel to some countries not many of us would have thought of visiting. Long time friend\, Dave Hill\, brings a selection of John’s photographs from his travels.

SUMMARY:Rail in Japan
DESCRIPTION:There’s more to the system than bullet-trains and cramming commuters onto suburban trains. Old bogie tramcars running on the streets of many cities\, tilting and double-deck trains on the 3ft 6ins\, childish trains\, ugly trains\, pay-as-you-leave single-unit diesel railcars\, even scheduled steam operation. All will be revealed. \nAnd of course legendary cleanliness\, punctuality\, and politeness.
