SUMMARY:John Heaton - An Area Managers Memories
DESCRIPTION:For our November meeting we welcome the last Area Manager of the Exeter area\, John Heaton. John had a long railway career in various parts of the country before he became the Area Manager in the Exeter area\, and his time in Exeter area has formed the basis for a series of books that he has written covering the trials and tribulations of running the local railways in the transition period in the 1980s. Following his retirement John has written many articles for The Railway Magazine on Railway Practice and Performance.\nJohns talk for the West of England branch will be a fascinating insight into the challenges of running the railways in the Exeter area which covered the Waterloo -Exeter line to Salisbury\, the main and branch lines east and west of Exeter. \nEPSON scanner image

DESCRIPTION:For our February meeting we welcome back Peter Doel for another talk with lots of photographic delights. Pete who is an excellent photographer will be taking us on a tour of the North East from the 1960s to the 1980s. Pete spent many hours recording the rail scene in the North East on trips visiting family. He has an excellent collection of images off the beaten track with lots of historic shots\, of scenes which are now a memory\, and a record of what has been lost.\nCome along for an evening of nostalgia and excellent photography.
