RCTS – West Midlands Branch Meeting Report 16th January 2023 – Coventry

1960s East Midlands - Cine & Stills

On Monday 16th January 2023 we welcomed our guest speaker Michael Clemens for a tour of 1960s East Midlands in Stills and Cine.

The journey began at Hatton (near Warwick) and went on to take in Leamington Spa, Stratford-on-Avon and progressed south and east to Banbury via the long closed SMJ. Then travelling cross-country to Blisworth, Roade then further south to Quainton and Aylesbury. Turning east and north to Hitchin the journey continued through Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

Many branch lines and closed stations were featured together with a number of quarries with industrial locos at work. Michael had travelled with his father on a large number of railtours including those organised by the RCTS and SLS. A nice touch were images of tickets of tickets which had been purchased for the tours.

To conclude the show we retraced our steps in Cine which included film of his father’s garden railway. We thanked Michael for an outstanding presentation which was his first for the West Midlands Branch. However he did point out that his father had visited the branch in 1969 at the Coventry Railway Staff Association Club, Coventry
