Presenter: Jack Boskett

Our March meeting welcomed well-known railway photographer Jack Boskett, who delivered an evening of diverse, interesting, and breath-taking images of the railway and other more esoteric subjects. The stunning images were peppered with amusing anecdotes and an incite into the care and planning that goes into getting that ‘perfect’ shot, a fascinating journey that did indeed take us from railways to royalty.

Jack was a lively speaker who clearly enjoyed talking about his craft and love of the railways. We were taken to just about every part of the country and from sublime black and white of steam locos on shed at Didcot to stunning vistas on the main line via many, what would in lesser hands be an ordinary scene, that came alive with Jack’s contemplative compositions and recognisable style. As he told us, what makes a great photo is the scene – the setting, the people, what is around you. And it seems a lot of patience as some photos required hours of preparation or just waiting for the right combination of light and loco.

A fascinating evening in the company of an enthusiastic and engaging host. Highly recommended.
