5 September 2025, ‘South Wales Railways in the 21st Centuary by Stuart Warr.
On 5th September Stuart Warr presented, ‘South Wales Railways in the 21st Century’. Stuart is a prolific and a very accomplished photographer and he was able to show us only a small collection of his work. His presentation started by showing container, steel and coal trains headed by Class 66s, 70s and a Class 57 at various locations. This was followed by several shots of oil trains mainly hauled by Class 60s, although one was seen double headed by two Class 66s. We then progressed to a variety of DMUs such as Class 142, 143, 144, 150,153 and 158, mainly on the Welsh valley lines. On the main line several shots of Class 175s including two Class 180s at Cardiff Central. We then progressed to the valley lines again with views of several Class 37s followed by a Class 50 and 67 on the main line. Back to Cardiff Central we had a pair of HSTs, one in FGW blue livery and the second in GWR green livery. This scene was followed by several hauled charter trains including a Hasting Unit and a rugby special. Stuart then concluded the presentation with a selection of steam specials headed by Black Fives, a Jubilee, A3 Flying Scotsman and GWR King Edward 1. All in all, there was a good mix of motive power, locations and a very high class of images.
