2 February 2024 ‘Steam & Semaphores to Penzance’, Maurice Dudman’s slides presented by his son Nick.

52 members and guests attended the second part of Nick Dudman’s showing of his late father’s slides. The journey from London to Bristol featured in the first part, this slide show continued at Weston-super-Mare to Taunton and the Minehead Branch. At Taunton we saw a 14XX, Moguls, Halls, and Castles on the Cornishman as well as other named express trains.

At Newton Abbot we saw City of Truro. At Aller Junction the line splits and we travelled to Paignton, resuming the mainline we visit Totness with a trip to Ashburton. Nick’s Father had taken several good shots of signal gantries; we had a few slides of Laira. We travelled on into Cornwall and towards Penzance, visiting Lostwithiel, St Blazey, and Newquay.

The evening ended with some shots of the Isle of Wight including Ryde Engine Shed with 02 Tanks, a trip to Newport through Haven St, the now preserved steam Railway. We ended at Ventnor.

A very enjoyable evening, with thanks to Nick.
