Britain’s Railways in the Great War 1914-1918 – Grant Cullen

On 8th October Grant Cullen spoke to us about the role of Britain’s railways in the Great War, which promised to be rather good. The speaker had approached us some months ago wishing to give us this presentation and he apparently knows his stuff as he has contributed a number of erudite articles on Scottish railways during the War to society journals. The actual presentation he gave to us however was a general talk which he gives to various non-railway bodies and was rather disappointing. To fit a talk about railways and the Great War into a single presentation is challenging but the material chosen was pitched more at a WI audience than the RCTS and left big chunks out of the railways’ story.
