25th September 2024: Signals and Routes, a talk by Bill Davies
This was a joint meeting with the Milton Keynes Branch of RCTS.
Although Bill didn't use this title on the day, this was another opportunity to hear of Bill’s life on the railway as a driver and his tales of the things and people he encountered on the way, all told in Bill’s inimitable style. He illustrated it with photos of unusual signs and sights, not necessarily railway related, gathered from his driving days and also sights he has seen on trips abroad.
He finished off his talk with maps of the routes that he had clearance for, which seemed to take in much of the South-East and East Midlands! Astonishing that such clearance requires detailed route knowledge of the stations, signals, speed restrictions etc, a lot of miles! Well done Bill. As usual it was a very entertaining afternoon and good to see him back after his recent health scare.
Joint meetings were a regular feature BC (before Covid) and it was good to welcome members from the MK Branch, including Chairman Steve Dexter, on our territory at Roade Village Hall, which isn’t so far from the county border!
We are resuming our winter programme on 21st October at our usual venue, Weston Favell Village Hall at 2:30pm
