27 November 2024 A Railway Roundabout Miscellany

Presenter Brian Arman:  With an audience of 32 , following the Branch AGM our guest speaker Brian Arman, RCTS President, gave a short presentation of current matters. The Society is seeking closer working with similar interest groups. With membership at about 2500 it is thought that more visits and rail tours might be possible at the branch and national level.

Brian then drew upon his large collection of colour slides, photographed from the 1930s through to the end of steam. He took us on a tour of north London terminals and loco sheds and then northwards on the route to Birmingham. Several colour photographs of the 1930s streamline locomotives and train sets were featured in a variety of locations in the east of England. We were then treated to a miscellany of locations westward from Paddington and some photographs of early diesel locomotives.

The opportunity to see photographs of locomotives, rolling stock and line side infrastructure in colour from up to 90 years ago was remarkable. Several photographs were unique colour shots of individual locomotives never to be seen again. With time running out Brian promised to come back and show us more of his collection, which was warmly welcomed.
