4 October 2024 ‘The View From The North’ by Steve Batty
We were treated to a ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ of trains in the Yorkshire countryside where the sky is blue, and the sun is always shining. Starting from picturesque Selby we saw a large number of locomotives from many train operating companies and multiple units in a variety of liveries. Locomotives from Class 20 through to Class 91 were seen in a variety of locations.
Steam was also well represented including Scotsman, Tornado, Braunton, Britannia, as well as Castles, Jubilees, Black Fives and even an 8F. Freight working at Gascoigne Wood and Barnetby with the semaphores and later with the colour light signals were seen. Passenger trains from the humble Pacers through to the TPE Class 68 mark 5 sets and to the latest LNER IET trains were shown.
We ended with a Class 60 on the Settle & Carlisle with the Chirk logs and a selection of steam working on preserved lines. The presentation of superb pictures with an informative commentary was enjoyed by an audience of over 30. A show recommended to any branch be they in the North or South of the country.
