1960’s Cine Miscellany

This afternoon we had something slightly different for our members, a “1960’s Cine Miscellany” a presentation by local photographer David Percival. This was a very mixed bag of railway gems around the time of the end of steam in the mid 1960’s. We travelled anywhere from the West Country in the south to Aberdeen in the north. I believe David had a real liking the Merchant Navy Class as we saw several sequences of the Bournemouth Bell at different times and different locations along its route. Among other places we went to were a scrap yard near Rotherham, where many of the Barrow Hill locos we awaiting their fate, we spent some-time on the Ilse of Wight, we looked at commuter services around Clapham Junction and Wimbledon, A4’s at Ferryhill, Narrow-gauge railways in North Wales. Also, a real variety of locos and stock in our local area around Knebworth on the ECML and the Midland near Harpenden and the WCML around Bletchley.
Several clips also included many of the early diesel and dmu classes. A fascinating enjoyable afternoon.
