Visit to Dundee via Edinburgh & Glasgow
5 members met at Warrington Bank Quay to board the 07:27 service to Edinburgh and were joined at Wigan North Western by 3 more colleagues. The itinerary for most of the group was planned to be north to Edinburgh, onwards to Dundee, south to Glasgow Queen Street then across the city to return home from Glasgow Central. One member went his own way at Edinburgh and the rest of the group split at Dundee to pursue different interests. A couple of us, in spite of having had a lifelong interest in railways, were crossing the Forth and Tay bridges for the first time.
Details of the services used were as follows….
Train ID Route Motive Power
1S36 07:27 Warrington – Edinburgh 390135
1A81 11:30 Edinburgh – Dundee 43146 & 43152
1T42 14:58 Dundee – Glasgow Q St 158735 & 170406
1M19 18:40 Glasgow Cen – Warrington 390132
The total cost of this itinerary of almost 580 miles, with a railcard, was a bargain £27.60!
The weather was kind to us and a good day out was had by all.
