A Broad Gauge Journey – Part 2 – Swindon to West Wales
RCTS – West Midlands Branch Meeting Report November 20th 2023 – Coventry
At Coventry on Monday 20th November 2023 our President, Brian Arman, returned continue his Broad Gauge GWR journey. His previous presentation being from Paddington to Swindon. In Part 2 of his Broad Gauge journey he recommenced at Swindon explaining the development of Swindon Works in both Broad Gauge and its conversion to Standard Gauge. From his collection of photos and lithographs he illustrated the journey to Gloucester explaining station by station before crossing the rivers Wye and Usk into Wales.
Early pictures of Neyland, Bridgend, Swansea and Cardiff were shown as they were developing, Cardiff being little more than a village. All of the early photographs were taken prior to 1900. His enthusiasm and knowledge of Broad Gauge activities is extensive and the audience gave thanks at the end of the presentation. We look forward to seeing more of these journeys in due course
