A Decade of Home and Away

We were thoroughly entertained this evening by David Jackman with his presentation “A Decade of Home & Away”. The evening started with a look at the Southern Region, showing all the classes of units at various locations working for the region, around 2012/ 2013.

During this time, we visited places like Clapham Junction, London Bridge, Dover & Folkestone, with some wonderful shots from the cliff tops. David also gave us details of the Classes we were looking at, plus the dates that Class came into operation etc. We progressed in a similar manner on to SW Trains, the Great Western where some time was spent showing the last of the HST operations all prior to electrification, then to Chiltern Railways where David compared the merits of the Class 67 and 68 locos. Then the Midland, including Merseyside where the history of the 313’s, 507’s & 508’s was discussed, then a look at Eastern where the Class 90’s have now disappeared in favour of yet more units! A visit to London Underground next, comparing the differing stock on the various lines.

After our festive break, David took us into Europe where we travelled to ten different countries across the continent, spending time in Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Cologne and Interlaken.

A fascinating evening with some brilliant photography and a presenter with a vast amount of knowledge about railways and their history.
