A Walk Down Memory Lane
Ian Boskett came across from Tewkesbury to open our 2025/26 season on Thursday 19th September with A Walk Down Memory Lane. This was a mix of black and white and colour images from the 1960s from around the country. Amongst his own photographs were others which he rescued from a skip! Limited info on some of those, the when was worked out, the what was reasonably obvious, the where – our folks were able to fill in some of the gaps. Each of the big four were well represented, Ian stressed the importance of keeping everything even if images are not top quality, because they are historical – often the only shot which exists! Merchant Navy, ‘Light Pacifics’, S15s mixed with Princess Coronations, Jubilees, Black 5s, Fowler 3Fs and 4Fs, A3s, A4s, Castles, Manors, Halls, Pannier and Prairie tanks, Warships, a Western or two, ‘Tommy’s and ‘Electra’s, electric and diesel multiple units. Ian ended the evening with a sequence taken around Tewkesbury and Ashchurch, highlighting the three ways it was possible to travel from the big station at Ashchurch, even capturing a Stanier 8F on the flat crossing which allowed trains between Tewkesbury and Evesham to cross the Midland main line to Birmingham. A superb start to our new season of meetings.
