All about the Letter ‘A’

Mike Dodd from the Restoration and Archiving Trust at GWSR, Toddington returned on 18th January to bring us “All about the Letter ‘A’. Mike has been delving into the wealth of material bequeathed to the RAT and compiled a presentation which highlighted the first letter of the alphabet. So, we visited stations and locations around the UK which start with that letter – a good selection from each of the four nations which form the United Kingdom; and countries further afield in Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australasia similarly. Locomotive classes from around the world which have that letter also featured, including the LNER Pacifics. Mike’s opening slide was of a pair of Riddles Standard Class 3 tank locomotives at a location in the UK which started with A. Most guesses were wildly off target but a couple of our senior, well travelled, members identified the location correctly! An evening with something of railway interest for everyone. Twenty five letters of the alphabet to go!
