Synopsis:
Since 2018, Vivarail has been carving out a niche as the ‘place to go’ for battery train technology. With the launch of 230 002, their battery unit prototype in 2018, followed by the delivery of five battery hybrid Class 230s for the Wrexham – Bidston line, scheduled to enter passenger service in Spring 2022, Vivarail have become leaders in the field, which has led to an increasing number of enquiries from all over the world. Complimenting this technology is their soon-to-be-approved fast charging system which will set the UK standard for such equipment. David Horton, Vivarail’s Chief Engineer, will tell the story so far of this homegrown engineering success story who are renowned for ‘getting things done’, as well as setting out aspirations for the future.
