A Touch of Eastern Promise – Java & Sumatra

The first part of the presentation will show images from a 1977 visit made by myself and fellow photographer John Hunt.
In an effort to find working steam we did almost all of our travelling by rail and often on the footplate. We made a counter-clockwise trip around Java and suitable maps will be shown.
The trip then transferred to Sumatra where we photographed two of the main systems on the island including the rack section up to Padang Padang.
The last leg of the tour was to Kuala Lumpur where we joined a railtour using a Malayan Pacific.
The second part of the show will see the excellent photographs taken by Bryan Acford in 2004 when he concentrated on the remaining sugar lines.
