After the Grouping

This year marks the Centenary of the 1923 Grouping, when most of the Railways of Great Britain were amalgamated into the ‘Big Four’ – the greatest reorganisation they had suffered in their first century, which was marked by the Railway Century Exhibition at Darlington in 1925. Tonight’s presentation looks at Britain’s railways between 1923 and 1929, as the multitude of preceding companies were reorganised into the four systems which most of us are familiar with – a process which did not always go smoothly.
