“The Fylde Line: An 80s Ride from Manchester Victoria to Blackpool” by Alan Jones

The 1980s were a period of significant change on BR.  New multiple units began to replace first generation ones.  Long standing traffics moved to road, such as newspapers printed in Manchester and traditionally dispatched by rail to towns and cities across Northern England.  Remnants of domestic coal traffic still existed, illustrated by workings on the Deepdale branch from Preston.  Decades old infrastructure remained at stations large and small along with mechanical signalling.  This changing scene is illustrated by a photographic journey from Manchester Victoria via Bolton and Preston to Blackpool North and South.
