‘Underground Trains on the Isle of Wight’, by Brian Hardy

For illustrative purposes only - not part of the presentation! When the truncated remains of the railways on the Isle of Wight were electrified in early 1967, the tradition of ancient rolling stock from the mainland was continued as former LT "Standard Stock" 1923 built tube trains were refurbished at Stewarts Lane to work between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin. There were six sets of 4VEC (Class 452, later Class 485) and six sets of 3TIS (Class 451, later Class 486) trains, plus a spare Driving Motor Car. London Transport expert Brian Hardy makes a welcome return to the branch, this time looking at the variety of former LT stock that has worked on the Isle of Wight since 1967 and into the present day, carrying on the tradition of second-hand (pre-loved?) motive power and rolling stock used on the island.

Please note this is a physical meeting to be held at our usual venue at Beechen Grove Baptist Church, doors open from 18:45.
